It’s simple to connect your phone or webcam to Facebook and stream live. But if you consider for even a moment, you’ll realize that producing a high-quality live stream involves multiple skills that few of us were ever formally taught. 

Assuming that you have the right equipment (which is a big assumption), there are camera skills (setting exposure, white balance, proper framing), audio skills (connecting microphones and soundboards, setting volume), lighting skills (light placement, ensuring color consistency), production skills (setting up your video mixer, mixing during the event), compression skills (checking bandwidth, choosing the appropriate compression settings), and computer skills (connecting to a live streaming service, embedding the video into a webpage). Failing at any one of these can compromise the quality of your live event, or even crash it down.

It details what gear you need to buy and how to use it, how to connect to different live streaming services, and which settings to use to ensure a high-quality experience for all viewers. Specifically, you will learn:

  • How to choose live streaming gear, including webcams and cameras, microphones, capture devices, video mixers, lighting implements, and encoders

  • Production skills like lighting, setting exposure, connecting microphones and sound boards to your cameras, and framing your subjects in the camera

  • How to setup and use a video mixer like the ATEM Mini Pro and Wirecast, vMix, and OBS

  • How to check your bandwidth and connect to YouTube Live, Facebook Live, and other streaming services.
